"Our mission is to provide the best honey bee winterization system ever made" - Peggy DeSanto - Minnesota - Inventor of Hive Hugger

Hive Hugger condensing hives support bee populations;

  • Demonstrated a 90% winter survival rate
  • Queens start laying earlier
  • Hives ran 7-17°C warmer
  • Colonies came through winter stronger
  • Bees consumed 50% less feed

The science behind keeping your bees warm.

Crown with R32 Insulation rating in a panel only 0.8 inches thick.
High-tech vacuum insulation panels meet the bee industry!

Made from the most effective insulation material ever created, the high R-value Crown panel is the key to creating a condensing hive. It keeps the top of the hive above the dew point, allowing condensation to occur instead on the cooler sides. Your bees stay warm & dry.

Plus, most heat loss is from the top the hive, so providing high R-value top insulation is critical in ensuring overwintering success.

Wrap with R7 Insulation rating

The outer winter wrap is designed for tough, frigid weather. These 1½ inch custom cut, high-density foam boards wrap securely around your hive to protect it from harsh winter weather. The foil-faced insulation panels feature interlocking box cuts for ease of assembly and storage. Winterizing your hives has never been so simple.

Since this is a special run specifically designed for Canadian box sizes we are stocking Hive Hugger for 10-frame equipment for 2024. If we get enough demand we will bring in Hive Hugger for 8-frame Canadian boxes in future seasons.

Does not fit USA woodenware. USA boxes use 3/4 inches thick lumber while ours are 7/8 inches.

Please note; Due to the huge variety of woodenware available in Canada with different box, inner and telescopic cover dimensions, you may need shims on the bottom of the wrap to keep it up against the telescopic cover. Space at the bottom will not affect the performance of Hive Hugger. It's also normal to have gaps where the wrap corners meet.

The Hive Hugger® design is based on research done by Etienne Tardif, Tom Seeley, Derek Mitchell, Bill Hesbach, Randy Oliver and many others.
