Propolis resin is typically composed of beeswax, bee saliva, sap, and various botanical products found in the surrounding area. Bees collect and mix it for use within the hive such as sealing up cracks, minimizing disruptive vibrations, preventing disease and parasites, and mummifying intruders that cannot be easily removed. 

For human purposes, the resin is extracted into a liquid tincture that has many antiseptic, antibiotic, anti-fungal, and antiviral properties.
