NOW APPROVED IN CANADA – Oxalic Acid Extended Release Pads 🇨🇦

The Oxalic Acid Glycerin Extended-Release Pads are now an officially registered Varroa mite treatment in Canada under Pest Control Products Act Registration No. 29575.

The active ingredient is Oxalic Acid Dihydrate (99.65%)  a well-known, research-supported acaricide used in mite control.

This registration specifically allows the glycerin strip method for Varroa suppression, including when honey supers are present, as long as label directions are followed. That’s a big deal for beekeepers who want to manage Varroa without removing supers mid-season.

How the Extended Release Pads Work
    Glycerin Strip Method (Approved)
This method uses oxalic acid mixed with glycerin and absorbed into strips (typically natural fiber like cellulose). These strips:
    • Are placed inside the brood chamber near bees so they walk on/contact the strip
    • Release oxalic acid slowly over time
    • Provide continuous contact exposure to mites
    • Are left in the hive for 42 days
Because they’re placed where bees naturally move, the sustained exposure helps suppress Varroa populations more effectively than a one-time trickle or vaporization method.

🐝 Key Benefits of the Extended Release Pads:
Can be used with honey supers attached
-when applied according to label directions
This makes mid-season mite control more practical for Canadian beekeepers.
     Continuous mite suppression
-42-day contact period instead of a single application
     Versatile timing
    - Approved for Spring, Summer, or Fall
    - Works whether brood is present or not

📍 Why This Is Big for Canadian Beekeepers
Before this registration, oxalic acid treatments were more limited (e.g., vaporization or liquid trickle only when no supers were present).
Now, with approved extended release pads:
✔️ You can manage Varroa directly inside your brood with supers on
✔️ You can treat throughout more of the season
✔️ You have another tool for integrated mite management
We now have Hobbyist Oxalic Acid & Glycerin Package Kits in stock to help you prepare and apply according to label instructions.
